Nihilism is transgression of all religious and moral tenets. While a recidivist can be testament to a perfect nihilist, sometimes we ,the common people , can touch its boundaries. With cursory glance it may seem iffy to find real culprit behind such idiosyncratic life style, a more delving look at the sea of emotions encompassing a person provides us a clue. And these emotions can be traced down to a life, if regarded as a song, producing music whose notes are not perfectly placed. Can there be a way to have hegemony over life’s harrowing experiences and have a hedonistic approach? To find the answer let’s have a vis-à-vis look of life with notes of song.
No matter what the state of our mind is , a song with seven notes produces an effect and directs us towards happiness. We just feel good about it. While these notes were not discovered overnight, some predict existence of another 8th note which when discovered may rejig all seven notes. And when this eighth note is used with modified seven notes in a song may produce an effect that has potential power to hypnotize a mind. And a hypnotized mind will shed all earthly feelings only to experience certain inexplicable but transient bliss. Remember bliss is something that disdains happiness which is an earthly feeling.
Now let’s change gear to see life as a combination notes. The first note, a professional life , can have chess as a microcosm of it where each player has certain rules . These rules go in different ways but forged only to direct all towards common goal that is victory. But here our note is very much busy to fulfill a common goal foreseen by others including us and to provide security to our very existence.
Second note can be attributed to personal life where we live, take responsibilities of our families and friends, fulfill their expectations. We hope and pray, admire and love. In short ,this note is sung only in conformity with social moral standards and ethos which make sure we thrive in a mollycoddled world.
And this way we shuffle, juggle these two notes to make life a melody. And when we fail to strike a perfect balance between them it becomes a noise. There comes all motley of emotions I referred earlier.Anger,frustration, disappointment,occasional desire to haunt happiness, smile and love. And finally we make a mesh of it and forget what really we want to do which is essentially third note. We become so much engrossed with these two facets of life that we renunciate and forget. We compromise to survive at the cost of living.
This third note, corresponding to eighth note of a song, remains undiscovered, unattended and after years it dies down and vanishes. Unlike first two notes this is the note that actually defines what a person yearns to do alone for himself , what he dreams for himself and what satisfies him. The impetus behind rekindling this note can be obtained from popular maxim:”KABHI TO APNE LIYE JIO YAAR”. You want to paint without caring when night goes and day comes go ahead and paint. You want to be a musician, a scientist who formulates mathematical equation, a social servant, a poet or a dancer, an orator or a dramatist just pursue it. If one wants to run in a sea shore by spreading his hand to mimic the trajectory of a migratory bird by gyrating and somersaulting like it and only to rise and punch in the empty sky that is third note for him.
And if discovered third note is mixed and played with other two in unison may make life a mellifluous song which may send us to a scrumptious trance. Who knows that may herald an eon which Scotchs pursuit of happiness and kick starts tryst with bliss.
